SENKŌ’s mission is to create an environment where young people can recognize society, raise their voices with truly authentic creativity, connect with others, and take action through visual storytelling.
We shine a light on stories that have long been overlooked, foster understanding and solidarity across cultures and positions, and cultivate the next generation of changemakers.
From Local Voices to Global Dialogue
Senko connects youth storytelling to the world.
Outstanding teams are invited to international youth photo exchanges in Higashikawa, Japan, where local perspectives enter a global conversation beyond national borders.
Youth – Led Cultural Rediscovery
We support young people in rediscovering the culture, traditions, and everyday life of their own communities – seen through the eyes of those who live there, not from an outside or touristic perspective.
Social Themes with Hope
Senko encourages photography that engages with social realities while leaving room for dignity, complexity, and hope. Rather than offering answers, young storytellers learn to ask meaningful questions through images.
A Trusted Platform Beyond Competition
Built on more than a decade of continuity, Senko has earned trust from schools and communities. While using a contest format, competition is only a starting point — the true value lies in the process of learning, dialogue, and ethical storytelling.
We are a youth-centered visual storytelling initiative that empowers young people to engage with society through photography and observation. Senko encourages youth to look beyond themselves, notice the realities of their communities, and express what they see with intention and care.
Founded in 2014 in Thailand as Tenkawa, the initiative has grown over more than a decade, engaging students nationwide and connecting them to international exchange. In 2026, Tenkawa evolves into Senko – expanding from a contest into a global platform for youth-led storytelling and social connection.
